چکیده
Purpose: Capsular related complications may occur during and/or following cataract s”rPew. Methods: We used endocapsular PUMA rings (EPR) to prevent such complications in eyes with pre or peroperative zonular c’ehiscence, high myopic eyes and eyes witl: exfoliation syndrome which have weak zonoles. EPR can be implanted easily through the phaco-incision before aspiration of the cortex or just before the injection of a foldable IOL. Results: The advantages of EPR are : to stabilize the bag ; to prevent the asymetrical retraction of the bag and thus prevents foldable IOL decentration : prevents the retraction of the anterior capsule observed with small capsulorhexis. More over EPR may provide a better quality of the vision by eliminating folds and wrinckles in the capsule and may delay the proliferation of lens epithelial cells and posterior capsule opacification in combination with antimetabolite drugs. Conclusion: The combination of rigid EPR with foldable IOL may represent a very safe surgical option to prevent capsular complications.

Capsular Tension Rings
Cataract surgery in an eye with absent or weak zonules presents unique challenges for the anterior segment surgeon. With the introduction of the capsular tension ring (CTR), and its several modified versions, the ability to perform safe cataract extraction with the implantation of a stable and well-centered intraocular lens (IOL) within the capsular bag has increased substantially. In order to ...
متن کاملOptimal Implantation Time for a Capsular Tension Ring
P erforming cataract extraction in patients with zonular weakness presents many challenges and increases the risk of intraand postoperative complications. Capsular tension rings (CTRs) and other endocapsular support devices have been important management options for patients with significant zonulopathy. Hara et al1 and Nagamato and Bissen-Miyajima2 introduced the first endocapsular devices, bu...
متن کاملBilateral Implantation of Scleral-Fixated Cionni Endocapsular Rings and Toric Intraocular Lenses in a Pediatric Patient with Marfan's Syndrome
The management of ectopia lentis in Marfan's syndrome is challenging. Multiple disease-associated factors conspire to deprive these patients of adequate vision. While optical correction with glasses and contact lenses is usually advocated early on, the irregular astigmatism and even partial aphakia that accompanies advanced cases generally warrant surgical intervention. Several surgical strateg...
متن کاملAll about capsular tension rings.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To discuss capsular tension devices and recent evidence regarding their use. RECENT FINDINGS The capsular tension ring, modified capsular tension ring, and capsular tension segment are well established tools for use during phacoemulsification when zonular instability is present. Recent research has provided additional evidence of their benefits in decreasing intraoperative a...
متن کاملFibrin Glue Assisted Trans-Scleral Fixation of an Endocapsular Device for Sutureless Trans-Scleral Capsular Bag Fixation in Traumatic Subluxations: The Glued Endocapsular Ring/Segment
Subluxated cataracts secondary to blunt injury are a challenge to treat from the construction of rhexis to IOL insertion. For that reason, we designed a new glued endocapsular ring (ECR)/ segment (ECS) for subluxated cataracts and IOLs for sutureless fibrin glue assisted trans-scleral fixation of the capsular bag. The glued ECR/segment stabilizes the capsular bag intra and post-operatively, all...
